I could not recommend this doctor more. I have found my experience with him outstanding from start to finish. Everything was explained to me, even when I was unsure of things he would re explain and reassure me. The healing process was amazing, I have barely no scar on my wrist at all. My wrist is 99% back to normal, I have returned to work with no looking back. Amazing doctor throughout.

Our son broke his wrist very badly and we were most fortunate to have Philip Matthew attend to him. From the start, he was attentive, approachable, considerate and put a frightened 14 year old and his worried parents totally at ease. The treatment lasted seven months and involved three operations, two of which were performed by Philip himself. After each operation, he made a point of coming to speak to us, explained in detail what had been done and set out what the prognosis was. His attentiveness was exemplary and his kindness in visiting our son when the boy was upset beyond the normal call of duty. His humanity shone through at all times. His surgical skills are obviously of the highest quality and, allied to his personality, go to make Philip Matthew one of the best consultants we have ever encountered. Our son has now made a full recovery, thanks to the dedication of this excellent surgeon and he has been inspired by him to follow a career as an orthopedic surgeon. As a family, we will always be grateful to Philip and trust we will see him one day as a Professor. We hope that our paths will cross again, possibly with our son shadowing Philip which would be a great honour for us. We wish him all the best for the future and will never forget his kindness and understanding during a very difficult time.

After breaking my wrist twice I was referred to him because I wanted a proper assessment and closure. He listened to me, looked at the wrist and then took some measurements on my good and healed wrist to compare movement on both wrists. I was then sent for X-rays. Afterwards the measurements taken were overlaid on the X-rays and I could see where the restrictions lay. As I have little pain during odd movements I've decided not to have a correctional operation and was referred to a orthopaedic hand specialist which I'll see next week.

I went to see Mr Mathew regarding a painful wrist/arm, he really listened to my symptoms, he told me what he thought the problem was and sent me for x-rays and a scan then gave me his diagnosis. He's such a nice man who puts you at ease, giving clear medical consultations anyone could understand. It turns out my ulna was too long and was causing damage to the bones in my hand and wrist. I was sceptical, I'm 49 and have had this same arm all my life so why had it just started causing a nuisance? No problem for Mr Mathew, 'I'll prove it, I'll inject your wrist the pain will go but return within 3 months.' He did just that, he certainly knows his job and you will never meet a more caring, genuine consultant. Although he's leaving Chesterfield for London (our loss their gain), he went ahead with my surgery. To say I was nervous was an understatement but he was so confident and reassuring I just knew he'd do his utmost to make sure I was ok. The day of my op he checked on me twice afterwards and let me know everything had gone well. Even had post op check early in his clinic because he needed to know everything was going well before he left. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Mathew, really nice guy and vey competent consultant. I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank him for my care and wish him well for the future. --Simonette Howard
